2,000 pigs die in factory farm fire

Some 2,000 pigs have died in a fire at a factory farm in Twente. The blaze destroyed the barn where the pigs were being raised.

The fire brigade managed to prevent the fire spreading to two nearby barns housing sheep and cows.

Officials are now investigating the cause of the blaze.

In 2013, the cabinet said it is taking steps to improve fire safety standards in the intensive livestock farming sector.
