Central and eastern Europeans make up 1% of Dutch population

poles romanians bulgarians.nlThe number of people who have moved from countries in central and eastern Europe to the Netherlands rose 11% last year to some 177,000, the national statistics office CBS said on Friday.

In addition, a further 75,000 people from the region are here on temporary employment contracts, the CBS said.

Most – 108,000 – are from Poland, but some 20,000 come from Bulgaria and 16,000 from Romania, the CBS figures show.

People from central and eastern Europe now account for 1% of the population of the Netherlands.

The figures show there has been no sharp increase in migration by Bulgarians and Romanians since work permit restrictions were lifted at the beginning of 2014, the CBS says.

The number of both Romanian and Bulgarian nationals in the Netherlands rose by just 2,000 in 2014, compared with 2013.
