Blatter resignation is ‘very good news’: Dutch FA chief

football ballThe head of the Dutch football association, Michael van Praag, has welcomed the news that newly re-elected Fifa president Sepp Blatter has resigned.

‘This is very good news,’ Van Praag, who helped spearhead a campaign against Blatter’s fifth term in the job, told reporters.

Van Praag, who pulled out of the running to try to unseat Blatter leaving Jordanian prince Ali bin Al Hussein a clear run, said he did not know if he would stand again.

‘I’m first going to the [Uefa] meeting in Berlin, where I will talk to everyone who is involved,’ he said. ‘Then I am going to decide what to do.’

Former Dutch international turned football commentator Ruud Gullit said he wondered what prompted Blatter to step down. ‘What kind of garbage is coming out?’ he said on twitter.

Later, Gullit told a television show that something must be up. ‘First Blatter does all he can to stay president and then he suddenly resigns.. you have to ask what is going to happen next.’
