Police release video of Amsterdam shooting

May 15, 2015

amsterdam shooting.jpgPolice on Friday released surveillance camera footage of the fatal shooting outside a water pipe cafe in Amsterdam earlier this week.

In the black and white footage, the victim’s car can be seen pulling up at the traffic light. He then gets out and starts to walk towards the pavement when two gunmen open fire.

The victim has been named as 25-year-old Youssef el Kahtaoui from Zandaam. Although he was ‘known to the police’ he does not have a record for serious crime, the Parool says.

Given that another man is seen running from the scene before the shooting, it may be that El Kahtaoui was shot in a case of mistaken identity, the paper says.

The gunmen sprayed bullets at their victim, hitting a tram which was passing by as well as several cars and buildings.

They then made off on a motorbike or scooter. A second man who was in the victim’s car has come forward and is not considered a suspect.
