Memphis Depay wins Johan Cruijff prize as most talented football player

Memphis DePay training 2015PSV winger Memphis Depay, who is moving to Manchester United next season, has been awarded this year’s Johan Cruijff prize as the most talented player in the Dutch premier league.

‘He was close last year, but this year he is a convincing first,’ Cruijff said. ‘He has made enormous advances.’

The jury also includes Ajax coach Frank de Boer and other former players. Previous winners include Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and Ibrahim Afellay.

Depay, top scorer in the Eredivise this season, will be presented with his prize at the Player of the Year ceremony on August 31. The 21-year-old will also choose a location for a new urban Cruijff Court practice pitch which will carry his name.
