Australian man jailed for 17 years for six-week torture of Dutch tourist
An Australian man who kept a Dutch tourist captive in a Melbourne hotel room for six weeks has been jailed for 17 years by a court in Australia.
Alfio Anthony Granata, 47, pleaded guilty to nine counts of rape as well as theft, threats to kill and serious physical assault, Australian media report.
His 21-year-old victim was repeatedly sexually assaulted and beaten during her ordeal, which the judge described as ‘vile, repulsive and dehumanising’.
According to Australian broadcaster ABC, the woman only managed to escape from Granata after attempting suicide and being asked to be left to die.
