Amsterdam metro gets the Netherlands’ longest escalator

escalator noord zuid lineThe longest escalator in the Netherlands is being constructed in Amsterdam, where it will form part of the city’s new Noord-Zuid metro route, RTL news reports on Tuesday.

The escalator is 20 metres high and 47 metres long and will take 1 minute 20 seconds to travel up or down, RTL says. The escalator is being built at the Vijzelstraat metro station.

The current record is held by the 43-metre long escalator under the Maas in Rotterdam.

The new metro route will have a total of 92 escalators when it is completed in 2017, RTL says.
