‘Slight rise’ in police offices sacked for integrity issues
In total, 164 police officers were sacked or resigned last year because of integrity issues, the police confirmed on Monday.
The total is a ‘slight increase’ on 2013, police chief Gerard Bouman said in a statement.
Theft was the most common sacking offence (27 cases), followed by leaking information or using confidential police information for private ends (22).
15 officers were sacked for expenses fraud while 12 were fired for drunk driving. Four officers were fired for sexual assault.
Most investigations centred on the responsibilities or specific position of a police officer, Bouwman said. ‘But behaviour in private is also looked into in so far as it has an impact on the reputation of the police.’
