Four Dutch jihadis on terror list, bank accounts frozen

Silhouette of soldierFour Dutch jihadis have been placed on the national terrorist list and their bank accounts have been frozen, Dutch media report on Monday.

The four, who have not been named, are said to be with radical Islamic forces in Iraq and Syria. It will also be a criminal offence to provide them with financial resources.

‘Taking action is the right thing to do because these combatants are contributing to the brutal violence in the region,’ foreign affairs minister Bert Koenders said. ‘They are also a potential risk when they return to Dutch society.’

In total, 19 people have been placed on the Dutch terror list since the end of 2013.

In January the government said some 180 Dutch jihadis had gone to Syria and Iraq. Of them 35 have since returned and 21 have been killed.
