Schippers of the Netherlands celebrates after winning the women's 60 metres final during the European Indoor Championships in Prague

Dutch athletes picked up three gold medals in sporting action this weekend.

At the European indoor athletics event in Prague, Sifan Hassan ran a solo race to take gold for the Netherlands in the women’s 1,500 event.

Dafne Schippers, European 100 and 200 metres champion, won gold in the women’s 60 metres.

The Dutch ended fifth in the medal’s table, with the addition of bronze medals from Maureen Koster (3,000 metres), Eelco Sintnicolaas (heptathlon) and Tijmen Kuijpers (800 metres)

Speed skater Sven Kramer took his seventh world all-round speed skating title in Calgary, Canada on Sunday.

Kramer said after the event, which consists of races over four distances: ‘Overall, I’m really satisfied with this and I think it’s pretty OK for seven times. Maybe it’s history we’re making today,’ the Calgary Herald reported him as saying.

However, Ireen Wust, defending women’s champion and four times world all-round title holder, failed in her efforts to win a fifth consecutive title. She lost to her biggest rival, Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic.
