The cabinet has agreed to spend a further €128m on security issues in the Netherlands. The decision was approved by ministers at Friday’s cabinet meeting.

The money will go to the security services AIVD and MIVD, the public prosecution department, the police and the military police.

Some of the money will also be spent on measures to try to stop youngsters becoming radicalised.

‘Things are going well at present,’ prime minister Mark Rutte said after the meeting. ‘However, analysis has shown that extra money is needed in the long term, because the current threat level remains unchanged.’

Opposition parties SP, CDA, PVV, D66, ChristenUnie and SGP wrote a joint letter to the cabinet at the end of January, saying they are concerned about the level of safety measures in the Netherlands in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris.
