Bridge renovations pull in 19,000 speeding fines this year

Ewijk bridgeOver 19,000 speeding tickets have been handed out so far this year to motorists using a bridge over the Waal river, broadcaster Nos says on Friday.

Work is being carried out on the bridge on the A50 motorway near Ewijk and the speed limit has been temporarily lowered to 90 kph over a 2.5 kilometre stretch.

‘It is as if drivers think the reduction is over such a short length of road that it does not apply to them,’ a police spokesman told Nos.

The A50 is a busy commuter route to Arnhem.
