Ajax moves on in Europa League, Feyenoord and PSV are out
Amsterdam football club Ajax cruised into the round of 16 of the Europa League on Thursday night with a 3-0 away win over Legia Warsaw.
Ajax’s Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik scored twice in the match after making the only goal in the first leg a week ago.
Milik turns 21 on Saturday and told Uefa.com after the game: ‘We had everything under control. We scored two quick goals and that was the turning point. Legia had problems mounting attacks. We played some nice football and I hope it was a good game to watch on TV.’
It was a different story for Feyenoord and PSV however.
The Rotterdammers, who drew 1-1 in the away leg at AS Roma last week, lost 1-2 in a bad tempered game which saw Mitchell te Vrede sent off following a challenge on Kostas Manolas.
That led to a storm of protest from Feyenoord fans. Several objects were thrown at referee Clément Turpin who suspended the game for some 15 minutes.
Dutch Eredivisie leaders PSV were out of luck in their second leg against FC Zenit of St Petersburg, losing 3-0 to the Russian side.
