Warm winter cuts fuel bills by up to €200

Gas flame2014 may turn out to be the warmest year in three centuries, but there is another bonus for households – lower energy bills.

The warm winter and spring have led to a 15% reduction in gas usage this year, slashing up to €200 off the average household’s energy bill.

According to energy company Essent in the AD, its customers will see their annual bill go down by up to €195 by the end of the year. Eneco is forecasting a €139 drop. Its clients are mainly in small city flats so their bills are generally lower, the AD says.

The warm winter will also have a knock-on effect on next year’s bills. There is more gas in storage than in a normal year, forcing prices down. Oil prices are also dropping which is also good for consumer energy prices, the AD says.
