PC Hooft prize goes to Anneke Brassinga

The prestigious PC Hooft prize for literature 2014 has been awarded to the poet Anneke Brassinga.

Brassinga won the prize for her complete oeuvre with the jury praising her use of nearly forgotten words and her love of the inexhaustible possibilities of the language.

The 66-year-old poet made her debut in 1987 with the collection Aurora and has since published ten collections of poetry.

The award, established in 1947 and worth €60,000, is named after the Golden Age poet Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft who died in 1647.
