Medical distribution group Brocacef takes over Mediq pharmacies

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMedical distribution company Brocacef is taking over the Mediq chain of pharmacies in the Netherlands, the companies said on Tuesday, without giving financial details.

The deal includes both the Mediq pharmacies and wholesale operations, as well as the hospital supply operation and logistics services, news agency ANP says.

The takeover creates a company with annual turnover of €2.1bn, 5,300 workers and a nationwide network of 335 pharmacies. The name Mediq will gradually disappear from Dutch high streets and be replaced by BENU, ANP says.

Mediq will continue with its direct and institutional medical operations.
