Rotterdam football club Feyenoord will not be calling for a vote on the use of artificial turf at premier division clubs during the football association’s AGM later on Tuesday, broadcaster Nos reports.

Last month the club said it wants the Dutch football association KNVB to organise a vote on the use of artificial turf but the subject is not on the agenda for the AGM.

‘There are more and more supporters of football on real grass,’ Feyenoord’s technical director Martin van Geel told the AD two weeks ago. ‘It would be great if the Eredivise opted to stop playing on artificial turf.’

However, the club now says it was not the intention to push for a vote on the matter at the AGM. ‘But we do want to discuss the subject during the conference on the future of Dutch football being held on December 15,’ a club spokesman told the Nos.

The KNVB said on Monday evening that artificial turf will be discussed during the AGM but a vote will not be held.

Six of the premier league clubs play on artificial turf and there is little enthusiasm among the other 12 for a change from real grass.

The first artificial pitch in the Netherlands was laid at amateur Rotterdam club Spataan’20 in 1986 as an experiment.
