Dutch online drugs baron to hear sentence today

pillsA 45-year-old Dutch national will find out later on Wednesday if he is to be jailed by the US for his role in running an online drugs shop.

Marc Willems, 45, was arrested along with seven others in 2012 for selling LSD, ecstasy, marijuana and other drugs to some 3,000 customers in 34 countries.

Willems and the others were arrested after American undercover police bought drugs via the online shop The Farmers Market, which ran on a hidden Tor network. He was arrested at his home in Lelystad and deported to the US to face charges at the beginning of this year.

During the trial, Willems admitted processing €1.9m worth of orders since the site was launched in 2007. He risks a life sentence in the US.

According to his lawyer, Willems has a cast-iron agreement that he will serve any sentence in the Netherlands, broadcaster Nos says.
