Amsterdam is 4th most competitive city, says PwC in a report for city officials

amsterdammingAmsterdam is the fourth most competitive city in the world, according to a report drawn up on behalf of the city’s economic board by consultancy PwC.

The 48-page report was commissioned by city officials who wanted to know more about the Dutch capital’s global economic position compared with the cities in PwC’s annual City of Opportunities study.

PwC researchers compared Amsterdam’s performance with that of 30 other cities which are all global or regional centres of finance, commerce and culture. Only London, New York and Singapore outstripped Amsterdam, which performed best of all in terms of health, safety and security, and sustainability.

However, in terms of transport and ease of doing business, Amsterdam was in 16th place, while for liveability and economic clout it ranked 12th.

‘As our study shows, Amsterdam has the basic foundations in place for being a successful and well-balanced world city. However, there is also clear room for improvement to capture its full potential and the opportunities it offers,’ the report said.
