Volleyball killings: suspects face 50 years in jail
Three people in Spain charged with the murder of a Dutch volleyball star and her partner face jail terms of 50 years, news agency ANP said on Friday.
The bodies of Ingrid Visser and Lodewijk Severin were found buried in a shallow grave in a lemon grove close to a house in the village of Alquerías, some 12 kilometres from Murcia, in May. They had been brutally beaten.
The Spanish public prosecution department has now completed its investigation into the murders and is calling for a 25 year jail term for each killing, ANP said. The killings are said to be the result of business conflict between Visser and Severein and Spaniard Juan Cuenca.
Cuenca and two Romanians face murder charges, while the owner of the lemon grove faces three years in jail for keeping quiet about the killings.
