Fewer Dutch universities in latest Times Ed ranking

delft university students Przemyslaw PawelczakThe number of Dutch universities in the top 100 of the Times Higher Education rankings has dropped from eight to six, the latest edition of the survey show.

Groningen and Maastricht Universities are now out of the top 100, with Groningen plunging from 98th to 117th.

Leiden is top of the Dutch entries at number 64, three places up on last year. Delft, Erasmus and Wageningen occupy 71, 72 and 73, Amsterdam is in 77th place and Utrecht 79th.

There are several organisations drawing up university rankings, all of which give a different result for Dutch institutions.

Plethora

Six Dutch universities were included in the top 100 list compiled by the QS World University Rankings last month.

The British organisation’s rankings are based on the opinions of students and academic staff, the number of citations and their international profile. It puts Amsterdam in 50th place, followed by Leiden Utrecht (80), Delft (86), and Groningen and Erasmus in joint 90th place.

Utrecht tops the Dutch entries in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, a list of the world’s best research universities compiled by Jia Tong University in Shanghai.

Meanwhile, Delft University of Technology leads the Dutch pack in the Times Higher Education university reputation rankings. Maastricht University was in sixth place in the Times Ed group’s last ranking of universities which are less than 50 years old.
