Dutch coach Guus Hiddink meets football bosses to discuss future

Dutch football coach Guus Hiddink and officials from the football association KNVB will meet today to discuss the poor performance of the Dutch team since Hiddink took over this summer.

The talks will also make it clear if Hiddink is to remain in the job. In particular, the Oranje performance in the 2016 European championships qualifiers has been poor. The Dutch, who came third in the World Cup in Brazil this summer, lost to both the Czech Republic and Iceland.

‘There will be a speedy and sharp evaluation’, KNVB director Bert van Oostveen is quoted as saying by broadcaster Nos. ‘The problems appeared to be incidental but would now appear to be structural.’

The next European qualifier is against Lithuania on November 16 following a friendly against Mexico on November 12.
