Bad summer weather hits Heineken beer sales

Bad weather this summer led to Heineken selling less beer in Europe, the Dutch brewing group said in a trading update on Wednesday.

Rain in Britain in August had a particularly strong impact on the company’s third quarter sales and the volume of beer sold in the Netherlands was down slightly. Both the weather and ‘challenging’ trading conditions affected sales in Eastern Europe, Heineken said.

However, growth markets in Africa and Asia offset the European decline and the total volume of beer sold by Heineken in the third quarter rose by 0.1%.

Nevertheless, net profit fell almost 5% to €460m, the trading update said.
