Pink traffic islands a mistake, council says

A mistake on a town council order form means the town of Wijchen near Nijmegen has been given bright pink traffic islands in the middle of a main road.

Road workers were given the pink coating to complete the job on the town’s Havenweg after an official passed on the wrong colour code to their paint supplier.

Despite locals liking the new colour, council officials plan to change it. ‘It is a distraction,’ local council executive Paul Loermans told paper DeStentor.nl.

Update Wednesday afternoon. Local broadcaster Omroep Gelderland reports a change of heart by the council and says the pink traffic islands will remain pink.
