NS will take you home if last train is late

People stranded at their local station because the last train was late will be taken to their front door by transport arranged by Dutch railway company NS.

The move is part of the new contract being agreed between the NS and junior transport minister Wilma Mansveld which begins in 2015 and runs until 2025.

Those stranded by the late arrival of the last train at their station will be taken home by bus or taxi organised and paid for by the NS, free newspaper Metro reports.

In addition, the NS will have to arrange alternative transport much more quickly when trains are cancelled. At the moment, the company has two hours to organise a bus service.

On Monday, the NS said it is increasing the length of some trains for the busy autumn period in an effort to reduce overcrowding on popular routes.
