Media magnate John de Mol puts Talpa up for sale

Dutch media magnate John de Mol has put his new entertainment group Talpa up for sale and several potential buyers have already registered their interest, the Financieele Dagblad says on Thursday.

Talpa produces shows such as The Voice and Utopia, which has just launched in the US. Potential candidates include RTL’s Fremantle and 21st Century Fox, the paper says.

Talpa will raise between €600m and €700m, the paper says, quoting sources. Last year Rupert Murdoch’s Shine made a €450m offer which was rejected.

John de Mol is also one of the founders of television entertainment group Endemol (Big Brother) which was sold to Spanish telecoms group Telefonica 14 years ago in a billion euro deal.

In the Netherlands, Talpa is also joint shareholder of the SBS television group which US company Discovery is reportedly interested in buying.
