Six Dutch universities are again included in the top 100 list compiled by the QS World University Rankings, one of a plethora of attempts to rank academic organisations around the globe.

The British organisation’s rankings are based on the opinions of students and academic staff, the number of citations and their international profile.

Amsterdam is up eight places to come in 50th place, followed by Leiden (down one at 75), Utrecht (80), Delft (86), and Groningen and Erasmus in joint 90^th place.

Tilburg and Twente are the only two of the Netherlands’ 13 universities not to make the top 200, which is led by MIT in the US, with Cambridge and Imperial College London joint second.

Something for everyone

Other university rankings give a different picture of Dutch educational institutions. Utrecht tops the Dutch entries in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, a list of the world’s best research universities compiled by Jia Tong University in Shanghai.

Meanwhile, Delft University of Technology leads the Dutch pack in the Times Higher Education university reputation rankings.

Maastricht University is in sixth place in the Times Ed group’s latest ranking of universities which are less than 50 years old, and Leiden is highest rated in the Times Ed’s overall university rankings.
