Dafne Schippers takes gold in 100 metres

Dutch athlete Dafne Schippers won gold in the 100 metres on Wednesday evening at the European Championships in Zurich.

The 22-year-old booked a time of 11.13 seconds, 400th of a second ahead of the French runner Myriam Soumaré. The UK’s Ashleigh Nelson took bronze.

Schippers is the first Dutch woman to win the 100 metres since Fanny Blankers-Koen in 1950.
