It’s all over for Oranje: Argentina beat the Netherlands on penalties

The Netherlands lost to Argentina 4-2 on penalties in Wednesday evening’s football World Cup semi-final.

The first 90 minutes plus extra time was a lacklustre game with few shots at goal and described as ‘dull’ and ‘boring’ by commentators.

The Netherlands will play Brazil on Saturday for third and fourth place. The final between Argentina and Germany takes place on Sunday.

‘It’s painful but it is part of the game,’ a hoarse Arjen Robben said after the game. ‘But you win with all of you and you lose with all of you. I am very proud of the lads.’
