Dutch football players committed most fouls at World Cup

The Dutch World Cup football squad were responsible for more fouls during the tournament than any other team – a total of 118 in seven games.

Host country Brazil was next, with 117 fouls. Germany and Argentina, who contested the final, had far fewer, at 87 and 76 respectively, broadcaster Nos reports.

Costa Rica was third on the list with 88 fouls in five games, followed by Colombia, on 87 from five matches.

Dutch striker Arjen Robben had the most fouls against him of all players – a total of 28 times in seven matches. Chile’s Alexis Sánchez was second with 22 fouls against him from four games.

In the Dutch team, Robin van Persie was responsible for more fouls than any other player, putting him in fourth place with 15 fouls in 16 games. Belgium’s Marouane Fellaini led the list with 18.

The unexpectedly good performance by Oranje at the World Cup has boosted the team from 15th to 3rd place in the Fifa world rankings. World Cup winner Germany succeeds Spain at the top of the list, followed by Argentina.
