The Hague forms new city council coalition involving five parties

The Hague has formed a new coalition administration, with an agreement between five parties.

The Liberal democratic D66, the Christian Democrats, the Liberal right-wing VVD and Labour, who formed the previous coalition but did not gather enough votes in the March local election, are joined by local party Haagse Stadspartij.

In charge of The Hague finance will be Tom de Bruin, currently a member of the council of state. A remarkable choice, according to the NRC, because he will exchange a job at a prestigious institute for local politics.

Coalition chairman will be Joris Wijsmuller who will be responsible for the controversial Spuiforum project. Wijsmuller was highly critical of the project to redevelop the area around the Danstheater during the previous coalition, the NRC says.

Policy details will be presented at a later date.
