Tax office conned out of €20m in single payment fraud

The Dutch tax office may have been conned out of €20m in a single payment fraud which is now being investigated, junior finance minister Eric Wiebes told parliament on Monday.

The circumstances of the fraud, which does not involve social benefits or income tax, are currently being investigated, the minister, who is responsible for tax matters, said.

The fraud centres on a single payment made by the tax office, the minister said. Wiebes declined to give any further information, saying he did not want to disrupt the investigation.
