Several arrests after World Cup football

At least eight people were arrested in The Hague on Wednesday night in the wake of the Netherlands’ 3-2 victory over Australia at the World Cup in Brazil.

Most were picked up for insulting and throwing things at the police and letting off fireworks, news agency ANP says.

Despite the arrests, police said they were satisfied compared with previous years. ‘This is especially the case if you compare it with two and four years ago, when we arrested 30 people in the same place,’ a spokesman said.
