French drugs smugglers arrested near Leiden

Two French nationals have been arrested in Oegstgeest and face extradition back to France to serve out their sentences for drugs smuggling, Nos television says on Friday.

The arrests were made on Wednesday after a tip-off by French police about a 28-year-old man who had managed to escape from custody in France after being sentenced to 10 years in prison.

When police raided the property, they found the second man. He is a 24-year-old French national who had also been sentenced to 10 years in jail.

Police also found a kilo of cocaine, 12 kilos of cut heroin and a gun in their search of the property.

Once the Dutch investigation is completed, the two will be sent back to France, Nos says.
