Dutch football association chairman says Fifa’s Blatter should go

Dutch football association chairman Michael van Praag says Fifa boss Sepp Blatter should not stand for a new term.

In an interview with the Volkskrant, Van Praag said Blatter is too much associated with the bad image of the world football association and that his time is over.

The 79-year-old Blatter is considering standing again in next year’s election, having said in 2011 this would be his final term as Fifa president.

Controversies

Fifa has been embroiled in several controversies lately, most recently charges of corruption in the awarding of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.

‘Fifa’s image has suffered in recent years,’ Van Praag told the Volkskrant. ‘Few people take it seriously and the buck stops with Blatter.’

The European football associations are meeting during the Fifa congress in São Paulo on Tuesday and Van Praag expects them to take a joint decision on Blatter.
