Australian men deny Dutch the double, take world hockey title

The Australian men’s team beat the Dutch 6-1 to win the hockey World Cup on Sunday in convincing style.

The Australians, defending champions and ranked number one in the world, were favourites for the title and put on a strong display in front of 15,000 people at a packed Kyocera Stadium in The Hague.

‘Australia were the rightful winners, there is nothing to be said about that,’ said Dutch coach Paul van Ass after the game.

Earlier in the day, Argentina beat England 2-0 to take the bronze medal.

The Dutch women’s team beat the Australians 2-0 on Saturday. The Argentine women also won bronze.
