Amsterdam to get new Holocaust memorial

A new Holocaust memorial, designed by the architect Daniel Libeskind, is to be erected in Amsterdam, the Auschwitz Committe said on Tuesday.

The momument will be the first in the Netherlands to bear the names of the 102,000 Jews, Sinti and Roma deported from the country during World War II and who have no grave.

It will be erected in the Wertheimpark in Amsterdam and will take up 1,000 square metres, around one-third of the park.

The Werthheimpark is the city’s oldest park and lies in the heart of the old Jewish area. It already contains the mirror memorial Auschwitz Never Again, designed by the late writer Jan Wolkers.
