Amsterdam remains the best place to live in the Netherlands: report

Amsterdam, Utrecht, Amstelveen and Haarlem remain the best places to live in the Netherlands and are stretching the gap with the rest of the country, according to the latest Local Authority Atlas, due to be presented on Wednesday.

According to the Volkskrant, the Atlas shows the quality of life in the western part of the urban belt know as the Randstad has improved because house prices have gone down and there are fewer traffic jams.

The Atlas is compiled on the basis of a number of criteria, including jobs, cultural amenities and closeness to nature. Public safety, universities and having an historic inner city also count as pluses.

Only two of the top-ranked locations – Den Bosch (5) and Nijmegen (7) – are not in the west of the country, the Volkskrant points out.
