American fashion magazine Vanity Fair says Amsterdam’s mayor Eberhard van der Laan is one of the world’s best dressed city officials.

Van der Laan entered the top 10 list by virtue of the outfit he wore to the grand dinner before king Willem-Alexander’s inauguration last year.

Vanity Fair said Van der Laan’s ‘shawl-collar jacket and silk, butterfly bow tie bring a smartness to the staid tuxedo. Leave it to the mayor of Europe’s most, uh, relaxed capital to shake things up sartorially.’

Van der Laan told Dutch media he had ‘danced around for 15 minutes’ after being told the news.
