Waylon turns up: The Common Linnets are an Ilse project, he says

Dutch singer Waylon, one half of the Dutch country duo The Common Linnets who took Eurovision by storm, has broken his silence after a national ‘where is Waylon’ campaign.

The Telegraaf reported earlier on Wednesday that Waylon had not been promoting The Common Linnets in a string of appearances in Europe, sparking a #waariswaylon twitter campaign.

In a short statement the singer said he was surprised to have become a ‘national treasure and subject of a national treasure hunt’.

The Common Linnets is an Ilse DeLange project, he said. The agreement was that they would make an album and take part in the Eurovision Song Contest and that was all.

‘To change my diary completely and focus on the foreign promotion of The Common Linnets would have more impact on me than on Ilse,’ he said.  Nevertheless, he hinted that he would like to have worked together more ‘on the basis of creative equality’, he said.

Waylon and DeLange will appear together at the Tuckerville festival in Enschede on June 21, broadcaster Nos says.
