No increase in renewable fuel production in the Netherlands

Green electricity accounted for 4.5% of the power used in the Netherlands last year, the same as in 2012.

Under EU agreements, the Netherlands is supposed to increase the share of sustainable energy to 14% by 2020. The government hopes a large number of wind farm developments will help achieve this.

The national statistics office CBS said the lack of progress last year is partly due to the reduction in subsidies for electricity produced from biomass – such as wood and vegetable waste.
