More storms expected on Monday evening

The KNMI weather bureau is again warning of strong winds and thunderstorms on Monday afternoon and evening, and has issued a code yellow weather warning for all of the country except Groningen, Friesland, Drenthe and the Wadden Sea islands.

Up to 40 mm of rain may fall during the storms, the equivalent of four buckets of water over a square metre of ground, according to online weather bureau weeronline.nl. Normally, May has around 60 mm of rain.

The storms will move into the south mid-afternoon and then move northwards, the KNMI says. Tuesday and Wednesday will remain stormy as the wind turns southwesterly.
