Dutch footballers to get €270,000 for World Cup victory

Each member of the Dutch World Cup football squad will pick up €270,000 if the Netherlands wins next month’s World Cup in Brazil, says the Dutch football association KNVB.

The bonus is virtually the same as in 2010, when the Netherlands lost the final to Spain in South Africa. A win in the group round will deliver €30,000 per player.

The pay-outs are in line with those offered by other World Cup countries, says Bert van Oostveen, head of professional football at the KNVB. ‘For our players, taking part is not about the money, but about the honour,’ he told the Telegraaf.

Bookmakers rank the Netherlands as an outsider to take the title, with odds of around 28 to 1.
