Railway information boards contain no or wrong departure times

Dutch train users on Tuesday morning were faced with platform information signs showing no or wrong information.

A breakdown in the information system meant that wrong departure times were being shown on the digital information boards.

Track operator ProRail is investigating the fault. ‘We advise travellers to consult the printed yellow information boards or check the NS website,’ a spokesman told news agency ANP.

Extra personnel have also been brought in and station announcements have been increased in frequency.

‘It is not a problem for most people because 99% of them have a smart phone,’ a spokesman said. ‘And the breakdown happened at rush hour when most people know where they are going.’

The NS is planning to phase out the yellow information boards because most passengers can access train departure times online.
