Marco van Basten set to take over as AZ coach

Former Dutch international Marco van Basten has reached agreement with Alkmaar football club AZ for a two year contract as head coach.

Van Basten, 49, will take over from Dick Advocaat. He has coached Eredivisie side Heerenveen since 2012 but said in January he did not plan to extend his contract at the Frisian club.

Advocaat said last month he was leaving the Noord-Holland club because he wanted a bigger budget to strengthen the team.

With two matches still to play, AZ are seventh in the Dutch Eredivise, one place below Heerenveen.
