Flight numbers rise at Dutch airports, except in Groningen

Dutch airports handled 8,000 more flights in 2013 than in 2012, the central statistics office CBS said on Tuesday.

This in turn brought a rise in passenger numbers of two million over the one year period.

Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport, for instance, booked an increase of 2,000 flights and 800,000 passengers over the year.

Only Groningen’s airport Eelde saw a drop in flight numbers. There were 1,635 flights in and out of the airport in 2013, a drop of 400 on the year earlier period.

The main reason for the fall was the scrapping of the routes Milan-Bergamo and Marseille by low-cost airline Ryanair, the CBS said.
