Oranje to debut new football kit against France on Wednesday

The Dutch national football club will turn out for this week’s friendly against France in their new World Cup kit which has what the Dutch media are calling retro iconography.

The tight-fitting orange shirt features the logo of sponsor Nike plus a Dutch lion, as a nod to this year’s celebrations to mark 125 years of the Dutch football association KNVB.

The shirt numbers also have a retro feel and are reminiscent of the typography used by Oranje in the 1970s, during the team’s golden years, Nos television says.

The new kit is completed by white shorts and orange socks.

New coach

Meanwhile, Guus Hiddink has confirmed he will take over as Oranje coach after the World Cup in Brazil.

‘I am currently busy with the KNVB in putting together the team I want to work with,’ he told Radio 1. Danny Blind is likely to stay on as assistant coach, while the names of Ruud van Nistelrooij, Jaap Stam and Giovanni van Bronckhorst have been mentioned as possible new team members.

Hiddink was Oranje coach from 1995 to 1998 and has since worked with Real Madrid, Chelsea and PSV.
