New measures to tackle discrimination against pregnant women

Social affairs minister Lodewik Asscher is to come up with new measures to tackle discrimination against pregnant women before the summer.

Asscher made the announcement after the Dutch human rights commission urged him to take action. The commission’s own research from two years ago shows 45% of working women had negative experiences at work while pregnant.

The commission is due to rule shortly on four cases involving women who all lost their jobs when their employers refused to extend their contracts while they were pregnant, news agency ANP says.
