Little change in crime perception figures, most of us still feel safe

Four out of five people in the Netherlands still feel safe in their own neighbourhood, according to the latest edition of the public safety monitor.

Just 19% feel unsafe, up one percentage point on 2013. One in 14 people was the victim of some sort of vandalism last year, down one percentage point on the year before. In particular, cars were less likely to be attacked by vandals, the report shows.

There was also virtually no change in the number of people who were the victims of a crime, which remains at around 20%. The amount of computer-related crime was also unchanged, affecting 12% of people.

The annual public safety monitor is compiled using police, local council, CBS and justice ministry figures.
