Immigration service ‘ignores’ psychiatric advice in deportations

The immigration service ignores recommendations made by health professionals when deporting illegal immigrants with mental health problems, according to doctors in Saturday’s AD.

The claim was made by two psychiatrists in evidence to parliament’s justice committee, the paper says.

They say information from psychiatrists is not taken seriously or is dismissed as speculation.

The IND agreed to allow medical staff to supervise the deportation of just 12 people with mental health problems, when this had been recommended for 900, the AD says.
